Plants are Medicine

Plants are Medicine – in ways that most do not even realize. Indeed, we have medicinal plants that are specific for many ailments and conditions from internal use and external use; we have plants that contribute to the quality of air that we breath, freshening and rejuvenating the air in our homes; we have fungi that will transform and heal the garbage of this planet and the toxins in the soil, as well as the toxins we hold onto within our bodies and minds; aromatherapy is a VERY powerful gift of the plant world – smelling the flowers and the trees in the forest, the herbs we use in the kitchen – so much more! And the living plants in a room bring such a sense of happy harmony and well-being. This is only a glimpse of the many facets of the medicines available to us from the world of plants.

Herbal therapy uses all parts of the plants – nuts, seeds, flowers, bark, roots. Written documentation of herbs, plants, fungi as medicine go back 5000 years, but we know that Ayurvedic plant/herbal medicine goes back quite a bit further than that. It has been around for a very long time and is making a resurgence now. Plants have been honored for their gifts of healing for thousands of years, and a good forty percent (40%) of “synthetic” pharmaceutical medicines are created/formulated from a part of the biological makeup of a plant that is known to be effective for that which the medicine is being created. Plants/herbs were the primary go-to to assist in relief from many various conditions and health challenges up until not so very long ago, and it is only recently that the search for natural healing has opened the door to this vast reservoir of knowledge – gracias a Dios. My studies have focused on the holistic application and use of herbs in conjunction with the whole-body systems, principals used by Ayurvedic herbal practitioners. I use a lot of ayurvedic herbs and grow as many as my circumstances allow me to use in my products. Bottom line, it is the natural world that has always been there and always had the ability to provide for us in all ways – learning to trust this, respect this, and how to access this is on the table during these challenging times.

The world of plants as medicine is vast – the purposes that are served are too many to know completely as we are on a continuous mission of discovery in the diversity of what the plants can do! It has only just recently become “mainstream” for the incredible medicinal values that the kingdom of fungi provides! Wow, we have only just found the tip of the iceberg on that, especially since that door was opened back in the sixties but the premise and venue upon which it surfaced was not entirely where all of the magic within this kingdom resides – and yet it is ancient knowledge, usage is one of the oldest on the planet and now it is back up for review from a different angle. However, like we have discovered recently with the legalization of and the use of hemp in so many capacities, this has literally opened the flood gates for research into the nature of the hemp plant, which is incredibly phenomenal in its extensiveness of abilities and applications, etc. etc. Plants in their great diversity offer benefits through Internal use, external application and as food medicine. Suffice it to say that they deliver far more help than most can imagine. However, more is not always better and being conscious of application is important as to the intention, and with dosage for whatever conditions are being treated. My blends cover the primary needs for which they are created, with a little bit more added as body conditioners - extra love. I create through my heart’s guidance, my accumulated knowledge, and ongoing experiences…and I absolutely LOVE this “job”.

The world of plants is, well – magic. I began my journey and relationship with plants before internet, so it was the library and one-on-one experience. I lived remotely and did a lot of learning via experience, trial and error and applying the book learning – my life was immersed in the natural world of living in harmony with the land in all ways and so I captured and cultivated the relationship with me as a human immersed into the healing medicine of the natural world. Wow, what a beautiful Journey it has been! And to learn that you CAN trust in the relationship with plants is a huge milestone, as they each have their gifts, so it takes time and effort to learn what the magic and medicine is per plant/fungi and per combination.

It is important that you get an idea that all my formulas have evolved via education and conversation with the plant spirits. Most of the formulas that are repeated, tried and true, stay true – but there are usually moments of tweaking when something should be omitted or added – and this is duly noted in the process. We are all shifting and changing, and formulas become improved – however it may evolve through me in the process. My head is always in research and if a formula needs tweaking, well then, I am on it. Change is the new ‘norm’.

Hopefully you have at least a glimpse into the enchanted world of ‘plants are medicine’. There will be much more information coming forth in regards to specific herbs or combinations to assist in the ongoing education of living life naturally in harmony with our environment – the loving embrace of our beloved Mother Earth that provides for all of our needs…simply to appreciate, respect and know it is there for us in our health challenges, as well as simply absorbing their myriad of gifts while walking a healthy path of living – in all respects, holistically. I look forward to posting a variety of informative articles to help those just venturing on the path of wellness to live and to learn about the magic of the natural world we live in.
